History of MAJIN COMPANY

Early Beginnings (1972-2025)

Royal Enfield’s story begins in Redditch, England, where it was originally a bicycle manufacturing company called Enfield Cycle Company in 1891. The company supplied precision parts for rifles to the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, leading to the famous motto:
🛡️ "Made Like a Gun – Goes Like a Bullet."

In 1901, the company introduced its first motorcycle, designed by R. W. Smith and Jules Gotiet. It had a 1.5 hp Minerva engine mounted on a bicycle frame.

Growth and Military Usage (1914-1945)

  • World War I (1914-1918): Royal Enfield supplied motorcycles to the British and Russian armies, including the Model 6 HP with a sidecar-mounted machine gun.
  • 1924: The company introduced its first four-stroke motorcycle.
  • World War II (1939-1945): The famous Royal Enfield WD/RE (also known as the Flying Flea), a lightweight 125cc motorcycle, was used for military airborne operations.

Post-War Expansion & India Connection (1949-1970s)

  • 1949: Enfield motorcycles were imported into India by Madras Motors.
  • 1955: The Indian government ordered 800 Royal Enfield Bullet 350s for the Indian Army and police.
  • 1955: Enfield India Ltd. was established in Chennai, producing Bullet 350s under license.
  • 1965: The company became a major supplier for the Indian military and police forces.

However, by the 1970s, the original UK-based Royal Enfield company closed down, leaving Enfield India as the sole manufacturer of the brand.

Indian Ownership & Revival (1990s-Present)

  • 1994: Eicher Motors, an Indian automotive company, acquired Enfield India and renamed it Royal Enfield India.
  • 2000s: The brand modernized production while retaining its classic appeal.
  • 2009: Introduction of Unit Construction Engine (UCE), improving reliability and efficiency.
  • 2017: Royal Enfield became the world’s largest mid-size motorcycle manufacturer.
